Babs Behan

Bristol Project Illustrator

With this feeling I choose botanical inks, mineral pigments, graphite pencil and paper to draw, print and paint.

I wish for my practice to be of benefit to the planet, enriching visual landscapes as much as the soil it eventually goes back into.

I am passionate about Circular Economy and creating art, textiles and clothing using closed-loop design systems, in which nothing is wasted, only continuously recycled, in a non-toxic, biologically nutritious process.

I currently teach native dye-plant foraging, dye-making and low-impact printing techniques, through the Botanical Inks workshop series, across the South West of England. This process allows individuals to harness their own natural colours from their own surroundings, in a way which has zero-impact on the environment as it uses solar energy, renewable plant-based resources and no synthetic chemicals, metals or toxic substances.

As a Traveller, I seek experiences that bring me closer to the natural world, to cultures living closer to Nature, and traditions of faith rooted in its magic and mystery. It is my intention that I may share the beauty of some of my experiences through my craft.
